Back on Monday, January 15, 1989 at the old Bird of Paradise Jazz Club, Paul Keller assembled his first Ann Arbor-based jazz mini-big band and called it The Bird of Paradise Orchestra (BOPO). That night a treasured, weekly jazz tradition was born that would continue every Monday night for the next 30 years.
Since that night in 1989, string bassist, composer, arranger Keller has expertly led his big band to great heights of musical achievement and popular acclaim, enjoying long and happy residencies at various Ann Arbor venues and a name change to the Paul Keller Orchestra (PKO).
